On June 1st, 2014 over 600 people and their pets showed up at the Hendenshore Pavilion in Whitby Ontario to take part in a 5k run that raised over $84,000 for pet related charities. Needless to say, Nutrience was proud to be a part of this event that encourages health and wellness, while also supporting animal welfare in the community. There are many health benefits that can be gained by training for and taking part in a 5K, plus an event like this one is also an easy way to get involved in your local community and raise money for a worthy cause. If you haven’t had the opportunity to be a part of the Furry Friends 5k you’ll definitely want to look out for next year’s event taking place on June 7, 2015. Here are a few highlights from this year’s event:

A brightly shining sun and a cool breeze coming off the lake made it the perfect day for a run by the water with a furry friend.

Nothing but blue skies and wagging tails for this year’s Furry Friends 5K. Nutrience proudly helped sponsor the event, which took place on Sunday June 1st at the Heydenshore Pavilion by Lake Ontario in Whitby.

This was truly an event like no other. A day when owners and dogs (and even a cat or two) could come together, make new friends and get active while supporting great charities like:

At Nutrience, we believe that living a healthy active lifestyle with your pets is important, which is why we love supporting causes like these.

Running or walking is a fantastic way to make sure you and your dog are keeping active and fit. Best of all, you can do it on your own time and there’s no bulky equipment required. It’s a perfectly flexible workout and a fantastic way to bond with your dog!

Before the race, participants were treated to a Doga session (yoga with your dog)! Instructors took them through a series of yoga posses that could be adjusted to include their dogs through massage and movement.

As soon as the clock struck 9:15am though, runners and walkers were off to the races!

The route offered scenic views and many fantastic photo opportunities. Infants and strollers were welcome on the route which helped to make this a true family experience that everyone could enjoy.

There were hydration stations along the route where dogs could enjoy treats and drink from multiple bowls of water. Adorably, many dogs found it crucial to have a taste of each one!

Human finishers were congratulated with an adorable dog tag “medal” and a mini spa bath awaited the furry finishers.

The lucky first place male and female runners with dogs got to take home a Nutrience prize pack built to encourage continued active living. It included a yoga mat, fitness apparel gift cards and of course, Nutrience pet food!

When all the prizes were handed out, before it was time to say goodbye, many pets lingered, enjoying time with their newest furry friends. Some chased Frisbees, others played tug of war, and some who were tuckered out after a morning full of excitement and play basked in the sun while enjoying massages and cuddles from their owners. No one could have asked for a better day for such a fun and friendly event. For more pictures, check out our Facebook Page. We can’t wait for next year’s race, which is sure to be even bigger and better!

See you then!
